Alkali Reductive Roasting of Ilmenite Ore: Canadian ...

AbstractReductive roasting of ilmenite ore by carbon in the presence of sodium carbonate was carried out at 1000–1200°C for periods of up to 180 min. Additions of sodium carbonate of up to 30 wt% of the ore enhanced the reduction efficiency. The maximum metallization obtained at 1200°C was about 85%, and the rest of the iron exists in the form of sodium-iron-titanates.

Magnetic properties of ilmenite, hematite and oilsand ...

Test results indicated that oxidation roasting of the ilmenite could increase its magnetic susceptibility within a certain temperature range. As can be seen from Fig. 1, Fig. 2, at 500 °C, even extended heating (up to 2 h) did not cause any change in the magnetic susceptibility of the ilmenite. At higher temperatures (650 and 700 °C), its magnetic susceptibility started to increase after ...

Low-Temperature Roasting of Ilmenite — Phase Chemistry and ...

Removal of gangue minerals from ilmenite concentrates can be accomplished by relatively low temperature roasting in controlled gas atmospheres to selectively enhance the magnetic separation characteristics of the ilmenite. At roasting temperatures below 800°C the magnetising reactions are often not consistent with phase equilibria considerations.

PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION INTO THE ROASTING OF ILMENITE …

The magnetic susceptibility of roasted ilmenite increases further with residence time, and at 20 minutes reaches a value approximately 16.5 higher than that for unroasted concentrate. Such an unexpectedly large increase in magnetic susceptibility, compared to results obtained in laboratory-scale bubbling-bed reactor, may be attributed to better ...

US4158041A - Separation of ilmenite and rutile - Google ...

This invention relates to a process for separating rutile and ilmenite from ilmenite leach tails and is effected by treating the leach tails from an acidic leach to a flotation step whereby gangue is separated from the unreacted ilmenite and rutile. The latter is then roasted at an elevated temperature in a hydrous atmosphere to convert the ilmenite to a magnetic material.

Ilmenite for pigment and metal production - OA Text

Abstract. Low-grade ilmenite can be leached with concentrated HCl at atmospheric pressure and at 80 o C. After filtration to separate insoluble matter the solution containing TiO 2+ and Fe 2+ is heated to precipitate titanium hydroxide and recover HCl. The titanium hydroxide is then calcined to synthetic rutile containing 95+%TiO 2 while FeCl 2 is subjected to oxyhydrolysis or fluidized be to ...
